Paper Bags, Glue, and Thread || 13" x 18" || 2022
This upcycling project centered on the idea of using a multitude of a common object as the material for a new functional piece of work. The of which this vest originated as was brown kraft paper bags. Outside of the additional tools of glue and thread to bind areas together, the rest of the vest is made entirely out of the deconstructed bags through the form of weaving and knotting. The vest features pankou (Chinese knot buttons) as the fastening method as well as a front pocket which is woven into the vest body and lined with bag handle. The spots of red in the woven paper fabric are from the base material's outside print.
